Revisionism Mad Men. Welcome to Draperland

* Drawing I recently purchased their first seasons on Blu-Ray and I will finish fourth after jealously guarded these months to enjoy it as it deserves, I decided that I will review Mad Men since the beginning. Not say here anything that has not already been said hundreds of blogs and websites, but I am indebted to this great portrait of its time series is Matthew Weiner and, above all, that HUGE character named Donald Draper whoever he is. Do what you want, sell what he wants, is successful and can boast an exemplary family life. Interestingly, yes. But all facade.

Mr. Draper shows us more than anyone prisoner of a modern fairy tale that he has built . A self-made man that is neither happy nor satisfied. It is not even comfortable with himself. It only seems to be in those moments of shared solitude in which, hand in hand to free women and unconventional (so different, at least in appearance, Betty Draper) is carried away by a strange melancholy. Cruel. Memories ungrateful not much time left to clear.

Draper is the soul of Mad Men , mirror the contradictions of a hypocritical society progress and well-dressed , cuyo máximo exponente no podría ser otro que una agencia de publicidad, la perfecta vendedora de humo y del carpe diem . Acompañado por sus colegas de profesión,  encorsetados, machistas y atrapados en su burbuja de anuncios, alcohol, mujeres y tabaco, vemos a ese Don altivo, adúltero y distante de ascenso imparable e imperturbabilidad solo quebrada cuando aparece su pasado.

Mad Men puede pecar a veces de fría por su forma de contar las vidas de sus protagonistas. Pero cuanto más la veo, más adecuada me parece su aproximación. La seducción visual que nos propone es la perfecta compañera de una historia de fondo pesimista e incluso desesperanzado to the benefits of a society so idealized.

In the first season just witnessed a taste of the great characters that make up the series.
